AMARE’E VS. EXTINGUISHER
You know, those Taiwanese animators are really fine storytellers. This is on some Pixar level sh*t. [watch]

Over the past few years, I have seen my extended family fall apart before my eyes. Why? People were making a big deal out of who should have inherited my late grandma’s jade bracelet. They were killing each other over whether they owned 1/3 or 2/7 of a shared property. They accused each other of not caring for my grandparents and being selfish.
What makes this so sad is that around 30 years ago, these 7 siblings and their parents immigrated here together. They traveled together, had gatherings every month, and their children became friends. Today, they are celebrating Chinese New Year (yeah I know it’s kinda late) and my family was not invited because of some beef the host family has with my parents.
No, it’s not about the money. I was looking forward to seeing a cousin of mine I haven’t seen in some time. Ironically, we hated each other 15+ years ago when I was a little SNES-obsessed brat and he and all my older cousins had moved on to PlayStation. Today, we make posts on each other’s Facebook walls about the NBA and Jeremy Fucking Lin. No, we’re not close, but we got over the stupid shit that made us hate each other in years past.
I won’t get to spend time with the cousins and cousin-nephews and cousin-nieces I am seeing increasingly little of, because of stupid little things my dad and his stubborn siblings are too proud to get over.
Be good to your relatives. When things get rough, patch them up. If your family is or was like the way mine used to be, you will miss it one day.
